How do I restore a leather bound book?

I found a book at a library book sale, copyright says its about a century old. It's suede bound and the pages aren't in bad condition, but it leaves a fine brown powder on whatever it touches. I would like to actually read it, so want it in good enough condition to open without it shedding everywhere. Any ideas?
