Should an Olympic coach lose his job for supporting a proposition in California?

As your link shows, he did NOT "lose his job," he quit when many gay Olympians and others criticized his phobic views. He has a right to his views, and so do those who criticized him. His choice to quit was his own. By the way, recent polls indicate that this is NOT the view of a majority of Californians.
