How can I observe cells using a microscope?

Iodine to expose a cell? Unless you're testing for starch metabolism I don't see why you'd use iodine. I would think you'd just use immersion oil with a high objective lens, after doing something like a gram stain, or even simpler, a negative stain like india ink or something.
